The Community Farm at Rainier Vista is a partnership among Solid Ground, Seattle Housing Authority and Seattle P-Patch to turn unused urban land into a productive farm and vibrant community hub for local residents and volunteers. Convene organized a robust participatory design process to solicit feedback from a diverse group of residents of more than five different language groups. Convene also worked with outreach coordinators to design outreach material and facilitate small group workshops, and then translated the community’s vision into a farm that seamlessly blends agricultural production with spaces for community gatherings and celebrations. Construction of core farm infrastructure was completed on a limited budget, with community members and volunteer groups bringing the rest of the farm to life in subsequent years.
