Maa Nyei Lai Ndeic (My Mother’s Garden)

Project Description

Maa Nyei Lai Ndic P-Patch is a South Seattle Garden composed primarily of Mien gardeners, immigrants from the highland of Laos and Thailand, who grow the food crops of their homeland for their extended families and community.  The name translates to “My Mother’s Garden.”  Convene led the community process, design and construction of a redesign and expansion of this garden, which had become overgrown and unwelcoming. The new garden vision features wide welcoming paths, defined entrances, a new shed and trellis that supports traditionally grown vining beans and squash. The final plan was celebrated with a traditional pig roast in the garden.
